South Ossetia offers to hold talks on August 9th in Tskhinvali within the framework of the JCC
“The South Ossetian representatives of the Joint Control Commission for Georgian-Ossetian Conflict Resolution have stated that the bilateral talks which the Georgian side is proposing are unacceptable to South Ossetia,” said Boris Chochiev, Vice-Premier and Minister of Special Affairs of South Ossetia, and co-chairman of the JCC, on August 6th.
He emphasized that “when Georgia is actively carrying out military aggression against the people of the Republic of South Ossetia, it is ridiculous to conduct negotiations between the aggressor and the victim of aggression without intermediaries.” Chochiev added that “the South Ossetian representatives of the JCC have appealed to the JCC co-chairmen from Russia and North Ossetia-Alania, as well as to the Georgian President’s Special Envoy on Conflict Resolution Issues [Temur Iakobashvili] and the OSCE Head of Mission to Georgia [Terhi Hakala] to conduct the talks on August 9th in Tskhinvali in the internationally recognized, and solely effective, framework of the JCC, which is supported by the international community for the discussion of this developing situation.”
